20 years ago today, the world lost one of the best guitar players of all time, Stevie Ray Vaughan. Stevie defined my love of blues music and my passion to spend as many waking hours as I could with a guitar in my hands. I never met him and I never saw him play live, but he changed my life forever. Stevie quite literally gave me a career in music. Today I’m not John Mayer the famous musician, I’m John, the kid from the Connecticut suburbs who discovered a style of music that spoke for me when nothing else did. And I post this in honor of both Stevie and the thousands of undiscovered guitar players who shut the doors to their rooms, dim the lights and play along to the music of Stevie Ray Vaughan and find their escape through a Fender Stratocaster. one of the best covers ive heard!

its 4.30pm on a thursday afternoon. someone in the library is lsutening a jazz tune full of trumpet and piano through their earphones (turn it up, i like it…)

Ive been at uni scanning things, typing things, getting things certified, all for POSSIBLE jobs that will be my life next year ive settled on 4…its a scary but also exciting process, interviews await in August…i have only 4 weeks of uni after one more week of so called holidays, what is great in this highly stressful time is…its forced me to think of the future, not just tomorrow or next week but 1 year from now…

i thank God and my parents for helping get this education, and next year is going to be the toughest of my life, as a full-time nurse (*fingers crossed lol*)…i use this time as the sun sets on this beautiful thursday which i have spent 90% of inside :(..to reflect what i will carry in my spirit for the coming days, weeks and months as i prepare for the future…

Starting many things, but don’t finish them…

• God never gets you started into something and not finish it…
• God brings freedom, but it isn’t a moment or point in your life
• Freedom isn’t a temprorary thing, its a process…

Philippians 1:6

“being confident of this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ…”

2. Process - of maturity…(Transformation)

2 Corinthians 3: 18

“And we, who with unveiled faces all reflect the Lord’s glory, are being transformed into his likeness with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit.”

Process people get really religious and legalistic, we need both presence and process to come together…

God set me free form this…so what now? FORMATION/TRANSOFRMATION…taking steps that sustain freedom, not just wait for the next conference… the next paryer meeting, but its a daily thing!

• You can have the presence in the process
• Jesus is the spirit, where he is… there is FREEDOM!
• the spirit of God is in you!
• get past freedom is in external things, but we forget freedom is in us!

Sustaining Freedom? Most important thing is to make a decision…desire comes in the presence of God, discipline comes in the process .. there are days yo dont want to!.. but the process continues…

• the devil really gets scared when even when i don’t have that desire… that desire to worship, pray or go to yg… i still do it!
• we don;t need that goosebump feeling, worship with thousands or hundred of others, or go to conferences but its the discipline to say i can do things by myself and still get fed and be close to God…
• theres a presence then there is a process, its after that presence that feeling where u can truly walk in FREEDOM

Matt 9: Jesus heals a paralyzed man…

• Arise
• take up your mat (take authority, take your testimony)
• go to your house (i want you to walk, miracle in action)

Galatians 4:21 - have you studied the law? do you really know what you are getting yourself into? Enamoured with?

Paul uses a familiar story of Sarah and Abraham…to communicate, living according to GRACE by FAITH, its not about ethnicity but of faith!

Galatians 4:22 - two sons (Gen 16)

Abraham has a promise of God that takes YEARS! So long that they think God needs help..

Same dad, two mums, two sons - Paul says this is symbolic 4:23 -24

Two covenants or two ways to relate to God

HAGAR: represents the law. Ishmael who lives under the law…

SARAH: The promise fulfilled Through Isaac

Difference between the two covenants…

First of all, The covenants God made with King David and Abraham aren;t old covenants, they are bits of the new covenant based on GRACE and FAITH!

OLD covenant: Moses (Exodus 19 - 24) - the law

Exodus 20: Ten Commandments verse 13…

YOU SHALL…emphasis on YOU, under the old covenant layed responsiblity on the backs of men, you better do GOOD… YOU SHALL!

Hebrews 8: - 9 TOOK them BY THE HAND, external, God lead people by their hand, what they could do with your hands…

What will i do with my hands…?

Problem: We could be doing GOOD with our hands.. but our hearts were still wrong.. and the heart wins out..

Inferior to new…

The old covenant was just OUTSIDE…

YOU SHALL…

Judgement under the law/

Exodus 32:28 3000 men FELL and died…

DEATH

Hidden in Moses

Served a temporary job…to point us to Jesus

Bible says old covenant had faults, not the law but that people had the ability to rely on themselves, it could never happen…

NEW covenant:

BUT verse 10 - On their hearts, the old is by hand, the new is by heart…old emphasizes external, NEW IS INTERNAL…

What will GOD DO WITH MY HEART?

Here, the hands may be doing still bad…but the HEART is good, and the hands will conform as the HEART wins out!

From the heart flows the issues of Life, Jesus comes to transforms the heart..

Its from the inside out!

Galatians 4:25 - Listen, Abraham is your dad, but who is your mum?, LAW (HAGAR?) or FAITH (SARAH?) - Paul is trying to get back to faith, responding to God’s goodness in faith!

Galatians 4:26 - Heavenly Jerusalem, an unseen, those of faith, mother of us all isnt Hagar, its Sarah, its not LAW, its FAITH

Paul is saying here, we dont mix faith and law, we don;t mix hagar or sarah, they don’t go together

Galatians 4: 27 - 28 - Children of Promise, we are! As Isaac was WE ARE! How was Isaac? Isaac was prosperous Gen 26: 12 - 14

Isaac was God’s child of promise that he promised to Abraham, in Isaac is the plan and purpose of God…You are his child of promise 1 John 4:17

God sees us as he sees JESUS!

BY FAITH we become as Isaac, as pleasing to God as JESUS IS!

You reflect on Him…God wants to give you MORE THAN ENOUGH! So we can bless others and extend the good news around the world… YOU ARE HIS CHILD OF PROMISE… Isaac is in heaven and doesn’t need the book of GENESIS, we need it! It’s about US!

Unbelievers envied him… so be it with YOU!

YES, there will be trials, yes there will be hard times, BUT GOD WANTS TO BLESS YOU and take care of your needs because you are HIS CHILD, SON AND DAUGHTER!

You think, it doesn’t make sense, well if you live by what makes sense you will never live by faith..sometimes you got to shout it out…

We are BLESSED =]…

Galatians 4: 29 - because you are blessed, people aren’t going to like you

Ishmael doesn;t like Isaac, they don;t get along… people who live under the rules and the law despise those who live in FREEDOM..GRACE AND BLESSING, undeserved, unmerrited BLESSING..Make no mistake, you will SUFFER persecution

Continue to preach, the centrally, supremacy of Jesus and Him alone…

4:29 - According to flesh -Hagar, Ishmael- made semse, Hagar was young could still have children, what could be seen, natural, logical…help God out…THIS IS NATURAL

According Spirit - Isaac & Sarah - 90 and barren, doesn;t make sense, how could Sarah be with child at old age? It’s against nature…Abraham at 100 + and Sarah 90…this is SUPERNATURAL

This context is uncomfortable, because its not a formula, its not logical…

Its Grace, its Faith…its the unseen… Faith is the things hoped for , for the the things unseen

Thats the pull to the old covenant, its logical and makes sense, we think God needs help… in the null and the delay…because it makes sense and before you know it we live in SELF RELIANCE, SELF SUFFICIENCY…

Galatians 4:30 - What does the scipture say? Sarah because Paul’s voice Gen 21:9, Sarah acknowledge Ishmael was mocking Isaac.. The LAW will mock your GRACE life, the law will say you don’t measure up…you’re not good enough…who do you think you are?

Ishmael will always MOCK Isaac, the cannot co-exist, they cannot live together…because you feel it on the inside…

Sarah comes to Abraham Galatians 4:30..Are you of Ishmael or of Isaac?, you cannot be both! Cast out Hagar and Ishmael KICK them OUT!

God was telling us, you have to get rid of legalism, get rid of the law, get rid of self sufficient, natural, low level thinking and living, CAST IT OUT, doesnt say wait it out, pray it out it says throw it out!

CAST OUT? Your thoughts, natural thoughts come into your mind..

Matt 21: where jesus cleanses the temple, jesus’ passion, flips tables over, whips and casts out

Zeal and love of Jesus will come and cleanse your temple 2 Cor 10:4 - 5 not carnal, weapons are not just of your own making, but they are empowered by God…

It’s not about me, its Him, im not going to be anxious, fearful.. THOUGHTS BOW, cast out THE BONDWOMAN and her son…I will live by grace and faith in jesus christ

1 John 4:18 - There is no fear in love; but perfect love CASTS OUT FEAR, because fear involves torment. But he who fears has not been made perfect in love…

Do you know why Sarah and Abraham got Hagar involved in the birth of Ishmael? FEAR…fear that what God said, might not happen…What if i get my hopes up and realy start believeing and it doesn;t happen… that thinking drives people back to themselves, putting the responsibility on their own back and they say IAM going to make it happen because i am AFRAID..

Antidote to legalism…its perfect love not just love, but PERFECT love… where can we get that perfect love? JESUS. ony jesus is pefect only his love is perfect!

OLD COVENANT is FEAR BASED, what if it doesn;t come to pass? what ifs….riddled by fear… only one answer, not just church attendance, not just good preaching, its the PERFECT LOVE OF JESUS!

No. 1 prority each day… TO LOVE GOD, AND TO BE LOVED BY GOD…as christians we are good at loving God, but what were arent as good at is LETTING GOD LOVE US..we have been taught worship God, honor God…these things are right… but what about LETTING GOD LOVE YOU??

Jesus, wants to serve you…Jesus washed his disciples feet…He wants to wash your feet, its the STOP, TURN off the computer, the phone and let Jesus love me…perfect love come into your temple and cast out self sufficiency, that fear based mentality and lifestyle…

When is the last time you let Jesus wash YOUR FEET? When did you last just STOP and let perfect love wash over you?

AMEN…
